The citation noted that Prof. Bramwell “was one of the researchers who experimentally discovered what is known as spin ice. Bramwell has also demonstrated that two-dimensional magnets have a critical exponent that can be defined theoretically, and he has coined the term ‘magnetricity’ for the magnetic equivalence of electric current…

“He has had a long-standing collaboration with researchers at the Ångström Laboratory through seminars, lectures, exchanges and joint publications and has actively contributed to the development of the faculty’s research in the field of magnetism.”

Prof. Bramwell received the award at Uppsala’s winter conferment ceremony on January 25th 2019.

In related news, a collaboration involving Prof. Bramwell’s, the results of which were published in the paper “Doping-induced disappearance of ice II from water’s phase diagram”, has been selected for inclusion in the science highlight’s section of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source annual review.

Previously the work had been identified as one of the ten most talked about articles of 2018 involving research at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source.
