Dr Jess Wade writes for the Nature Index 2022 Nanoscience and nanotechnology

Dr Jess Wade is an award-winning physicist and author based at the LCN at Imperial College London. Her work is focused on the nanostructures of chiral semiconductors and how these nanostructures impact their electronic and photophysical properties.

Jess has a passion for science communication and has taken many approaches to engage with the public, including science festivals, podcasts, school workshops and poetry slams, writing pages on nanoscience-related topics for Wikipedia, and has recently published a book for children.

She was awarded a silver medal for the Bank Street 2022 Cook Prize for her book Nano: The Spectacular Science of the Very (Very) Small.

She has written an article for the Nature Index 2022 Nanoscience and nanotechnology supplement entitled ‘Why I wrote a children’s book about nanoscience‘. The article discusses why public engagement is so important for nanotechnology and how research can tackle nano-phobia by inspiring the next generation.
