LCN hosts Brazilian Delegation of Scientists

The LCN hosted a delegation of scientists from Brazil as part of their UK visit on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship on Advanced Material and Photonics” on 27-28th June 2022. The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil (MCTI) and researchers from renowned Brazilian institutions of Science, Technology and Innovation, such as the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro).

The visit was in part motivated by the development of a new Laboratory of Advanced Materials and Strategic Minerals – GraNioTer-MCTI in Brazil. The Lab, funded by the MCTI, acts as a technical hub of advanced materials and strategic minerals, aiming for technological deepening of production chains based on graphene, niobium, and other rare-earth elements.

The first day included presentations from the LCN and the Brazilian Delegation and included lab tours at Imperial and King’s campuses.

Professor Sandrine Heutz, LCN Director, LCN @ Imperial College London

“It has been wonderful to share our vision for Nanotechnology with the delegation and to hear about many examples of excellent science and research centre models in Brazil. It has been particularly inspiring to learn about the alignment of research focus with a more mindful usage of natural resources, which is crucial for a sustainable future. We are grateful for this fruitful exchange of ideas and look forward to exploring areas of collaboration in the future.” Professor Sandrine Heutz, LCN Director, LCN @ Imperial College London

On the second day, the delegation visited the LCN @ UCL in Bloomsbury with presentations from UCLQ and i-sense, followed by lab tours in the LCN building.
