Two LCN members win prestigious FRS award

Congratulations to LCN members Molly Stevens and Iain McCulloch for being elected Fellows of the Royal Society. Molly is Professor of Biomedical Materials and Regenerative Medicine in the Departments of Materials and Bioengineering and Research Director for Biomedical Material Sciences at Imperial College London. Her work is at the interface between biology and materials, and her interdisciplinary group tackles applications in disease diagnostics and regenerative medicine. She works closely with collaborators across the LCN and is a Deputy Director of i-sense.

Iain is Professor of Polymer Materials in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial and Director of the KAUST Solar Center at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. His work focuses on the synthesis and design of molecular semiconductors with high performance optical and electronic properties, which can form the basis of new processable electronic devices.

The honour is based on election by the society’s members for ‘a substantial contribution to the improvement of natural knowledge, including mathematics, engineering science and medical science’. Fellowships are given to distinguished scientists by the Royal Society in recognition of “contributions to science, both in fundamental research resulting in greater understanding, and also in leading and directing scientific and technological progress in industry and research establishments.”
