Coherence analysis in ultrafast structural dynamics experiments at X-ray Free Electron Lasers

X-ray Free Electron lasers provide new experimental opportunities for ultrafast X-ray science, including scattering and spectroscopy. I will present experimental and theoretical work on the analysis of coherences from X-ray crystallographic data and X-ray spectroscopy. The preparation and detection of coherences strongly depends on the source characteristics for the optical and X-ray pulses. I will show crystallographic measurement of nuclear coherences in protein crystals and analysis using density matrix calculations demonstrating a coherent control mechanism for ultrafast structural dynamics. I will additionally discuss applications of four wave mixing theory to optical crystallography, X-ray crystallography and non-linear two dimensional X-ray spectroscopy.

About the Series:
The Light & Matter Seminar Series is hosted by the Photonics & Nanotechnology Group at King’s College London. It invites experts working across the diverse domain of Light and Matter to share insights into novel research on fundamental interactions. Join us to explore how light transforms and reveals material properties on classical and quantum scales, with applications from nonlinear optics to nanophotonics.

Audience:
All LCN members, including students, are welcome to attend.
