Professor Sandrine Heutz appointed new Head of Department at Imperial College London

LCN Co-Director Professor Sandrine Heutz has accepted an appointment as Head of the Department of Materials at Imperial College London. She will carry out the role in conjunction with her LCN role

Professor Heutz joined Imperial in 2007 as Lecturer Designate and Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow, and was promoted to Professor of Functional Molecular Materials in 2018. She has been the Imperial Co-Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology since 2020.

Professor Heutz’s research is focused on the fabrication and advanced characterization of molecular thin films and nanostructures, and their application in spintronic, optoelectronic and quantum technologies.

On accepting the appointment, Professor Heutz said:

“I have been a member of this department for 15 years and have always felt lucky to work in such a vibrant, supportive and cutting-edge environment. It is a huge privilege to take on as Head of Department to build on these strong bases, and to further strengthen our excellence in research and teaching.”

Professor Heutz succeeds Professor Peter Haynes, who starts a new role as Interim Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience).
