The art of quantum explored at British Science Festival

At the British Science Festival on 10 September 2025, The Art of Quantum brought together leading voices from science and the arts to reflect on how quantum mechanics continues to inspire creativity.

Guiding the discussion, Wade invited Nicola Triscott (FACT), filmmaker Harry Kumar (Moth) and artist Felicity Inkpen to share how quantum theory’s strange concepts and imagery have shaped their creative work. The panellists reflected on the challenge of representing the intangible, the ways in which metaphor and visual language bridge science and culture, and how collaboration across disciplines can open fresh perspectives for both researchers and artists.

Wade steered the conversation to highlight not only the cultural reach of quantum ideas but also the potential for art to expand public understanding of complex science. For festivalgoers, the session underscored why the quantum world, more than a century after the theory’s birth, fuels imagination across both science and art.
