Management and governance

The LCN is jointly owned and run by the three partner universities – King’s, Imperial and UCL – with one co-director from each.  They are responsible for the day-to-day running of the institution as a whole. The LCN co-directors work with an Executive Committee, with input from an external Advisory Board

MANAGEMENT

Day-to-day management of the LCN is in the hands of three co-Directors, one from each partner institution.  They are assisted by an Executive Board formed from senior scientists within the Centre.

The Directors are responsible to a joint oversight committee consisting of the Vice-Provosts/Vice Presidents for Research at the three institutions.  The LCN is advised by an International Advisory Board, consisting of international experts in nanoscience and nanotechnology and jointly chaired by the Provosts/Principals of the three partners (or their deputies).

The UCL co-Director is responsible to the Dean of Mathematical and Physical Sciences for the running of the UCL research department.

Joint Executive  Board

The LCN Executive Board is the strategic leadership team for the London Centre for Nanotechnology, bringing together representatives from UCL, Imperial College London, and King’s College London. Members include senior academics, centre managers, and departmental representatives from across the partner institutions. The Board meets regularly to align priorities, share institutional updates, and coordinate collaborative initiatives. Key areas of focus include research infrastructure, funding strategy, industry engagement, and governance which ensures that the LCN remains a world-leading, interdisciplinary centre for nanotechnology research and innovation.

ADVISORY BOARD

The LCN Advisory Board brings together leading experts from academia, industry, and partner institutions to help shape the future of the London Centre for Nanotechnology. Focused on advancing cutting-edge nanoscience, the Board provides strategic insight on research priorities, innovation opportunities, and emerging challenges. Its guidance supports the Centre’s mission to remain at the forefront of interdisciplinary nanotechnology research across healthcare, ICT, and planetcare.

The main LCN Advisory Board presently consists of representatives of the three colleges and international leaders in the practice and application of nanotechnology.

The LCN Industry Advisory Board (IAB) plays a key role in shaping the LCN’s strategic endeavours. Comprised of members from aligned industries, the board ensures the identification of industry trends and initiatives, facilitates technology transfer and fundraising, and provides guidance on essential industry skills within LCN’s framework.
