Quantum Beats: A Weird Science Silent Disco at Imperial Lates

A team from the London Centre for Nanotechnology at King’s brought quantum physics to life at Weird Science, an Imperial Lates event at Imperial College London.

Molly Message (Department of Physics), Megan Grace-Hughes (LCN Centre Manager), and  Dr Vittorio Aita (Springer Nature) created a silent disco where visitors danced to sounds recorded in LCN labs while learning key quantum concepts.

The immersive experience formed part of Quantum Leaps, a project funded by STEM Learning. By blending science with music, the event allowed attendees to engage with complex ideas in a fun and memorable way.

Imperial Lates are free, after-hours events that showcase cutting-edge research in interactive formats, with Weird Science exploring unusual and unexpected scientific phenomena. The quantum disco proved a hit, demonstrating how physics can be both educational and entertaining.
