Chemical sensors and biosensors

After an undergraduate degree in physics, James's Ph.D. studies employed ultrafast laser spectroscopy to study the primary reactions of plant photosynthesis, under the supervision of Lord Porter and Professor James Barber at the Royal Institution. Following postdoctoral positions both at Imperial College and in Holland, James took up a 5 year BBSRC Advanced Fellowship in the Biochemistry Department. During his fellowship, James's research extended into artificial rather than natural photosynthesis - dye sensitised solar cells - and nanostructured biosensors. At the completion of his fellowship in 1999, he took up his current position as lecturer and subsequently senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry.
